  1. Gettysburg Battlefield in Pennsylvania.

    It is at the area known as "The Angle" on Cemetery Ridge. The monument is for the 71st Pennsylvania.

  3. Researching the NC 26th in relation to family history is how I came upon the monument for the 71st Pennsylvania. The NC 26th advancement monument is to the right, looking out into the fields, of the 2nd photo within a 50 yards or so.
    I had one ggg-uncle Pvt. James Curtis of Company C NC 26th killed in Picketts charge on the 2nd day of battle. Sgt. William Curtis brother of James Curtis survived Gettysburg and was one of only about 134 men of the NC 26th to surrender at Appomattax Court House.
    The body of James Curtis was never identified or known to have been recovered.
